The Plan to Excel Model

Strategic planning is one of a leader’s most important responsibilities. Unfortunately, Planning to Excel: Strategic Planning That Worksin today’s fast paced world, there are more and more voices saying strategic planning not only isn’t necessary, it’s counter-productive.

That’s wrong!

In truth, strategic planning is essential.

When done correctly!

A good strategic plan provides the foundation for everything else the organization does. It is not a complete business plan or a marketing plan but should be the basis upon which those documents are built.

A good strategic plan puts everyone on the same path. It helps each member of the organization understand why the organization exists, what it does, and how each person is essential to success. Do all your people know that?

A good strategic plan, properly executed, helps move the organization forward, preventing the stagnation that occurs when there are no challenging, far-reaching goals.

A good strategic plan keeps the organization’s leadership focused on what’s really important.

A good strategic plan allows for the flexibility necessary to operate in today’s fast-paced, ever-changing world.

A good strategic planning process is not complex and does not take weeks, months, or years to accomplish.

The Plan to Excel Model™ is the result of more than 20 years of creating strategic plans. I’ve watched the commonly accepted models become increasingly complex. That complexity has led to more than a few organizations throwing in the towel, deciding that strategic planning just isn’t worth the effort. The Plan to Excel Model™ dispenses with the complexity and uses a simple, easily accomplished, repeatable process which has been consistently successful.

I want you and your organization to succeed. I’m so sure that the Plan to Excel Model™ will accelerate your organization to new heights that I will give you a .pdf of the new edition of my book, Planning to Excel: Strategic Planning That Works if you send me an email requesting a free telephone consult. As soon as we set up a time, I’ll send you the file. This consult, and the .pdf is completely free and you’re under no obligation to go any further. Of course I believe you’ll want this for your company or organization.

Before our initial consult, read the book and jot down some notes about your vision for the organization and its mission.

After the initial consult, we’ll schedule a week to create your strategic plan.

Only a week? That’s right. It’s a very intense 4-5 days requiring you and your leadership team to dedicate your time and do some preliminary work. Experience has proven that one of the reasons strategic planning fails is that the process is carried on for too long a period and is overcome by other events that become a priority. By using such an intense schedule, we can quickly build momentum and complete the plan before that happens.

Click here to see the strategic planning process and learn how it can be completed in such a short time period.

While you and your team are studying the spiral bound copies of Planning to Excel: Strategic Planning that Works which you’ll receive to use as a workbook throughout the process, I’ll study your organization and learn about your key leaders. Each member of your leadership team will also take the Energize2Lead™ profile from Academy Leadership. The profile will help me learn about you and will help your team learn a little about each other.

On the first day of your planning week, I’ll meet with the senior leader and help finish a powerful vision statement. Then, I’ll meet with the leadership team and go through the strategic planning process. By the end of the first day we’ll have a powerful vision and a mission statement that will be the basis for the rest of the planning process. The second day we’ll define the organization’s values and take a look at the bumps and roadblocks that are likely to get in the way of mission accomplishment. The rest of the second day, and all of the third day will concentrate on goal setting. After the initial plan is complete we’ll spend some time on one of the most critical parts of the process, and one that is often neglected; communication, assessment, and follow-up plans. At the end of our planning week, I will deliver the completed strategic plan and you will begin moving your organization forward!
